Malcolm Allan Homes - The Woodlands, Milltimber

The Brief

John & Wendy Low approached Laings with a clear vision – for a collaborative approach to design a contemporary, sociable family kitchen for their Malcolm Allan home at Woodlands, Milltimber. Proposing clever storage solutions for hidden appliances to maximize use of layout was key, as was having easy access to everyday goods, whilst complementing the rest of the property.

Design Details

When meeting their dedicated designer Cara in our showroom, John & Wendy were drawn to one of our stand-out displays showcasing a stone veneer door finish (below, left). Cara used this point of reference as inspiration for the bespoke design - creating a cohesive, but contemporary look for the Low's family kitchen (below, right).

Using darker tones against the abundant natural light highlights the textural qualities of the door finish. This clever choice has created a bright and spacious kitchen, well-suited to family living during the day, while transforming into a more intimate, cozy atmosphere in the evening - with cleverly placed pendant lighting above the expansive 4-seater island with sleek, built in CDA wine cooler.

The Solution

Cara used her expertise in spatial planning in helping John and Wendy transform their vision to reality, and maximizing the kitchen’s potential by adding storage spaces, accommodating sleek built-in Siemens appliances, a mini bar, hidden pantry and even a hidden door to the family’s utility room!

Wendy’s favourite details are the Quooker hot water tap, warming drawer and pull-out waste organisation system. However, the standout feature in their kitchen design is the sleek, streamlined bank of tall units, which - when opened - reveal a multitude of hidden gems, reflecting the couple’s polished style. The addition not only allows for effortless organisation, but also provides an opportunity to showcase separate elements of the space independently.

Summary

The Lows were extremely complementary and appreciative of their designer, Cara taking the time to consider their vision and give them ideas on how to make it even better. Cara said of working on this project: “Providing excellent customer service is a key part of my role - it’s extremely rewarding to revisit clients in their homes to see their completed kitchens, having worked closely on a design from initial conception.

Customer Feedback

Mr & Mrs Low’s advice to anyone building a new property or buying from a developer is to get involved as early as possible in the design and selection process, as this will allow you to maximise your input and give you versatility when designing.

They advised that they were very satisfied with their Laings experience, from design concept to completion, providing the following feedback on the Laings experience:We would wish to convey our strongest appreciation of the design function (Cara) and also the great assistance which Janice gave us……… fantastic service. Could not fault the business, indeed it upheld our previous experience with Laings when they did work for us (design and installation) in our previous home…. The choices available were there for us to see. There wasn’t anything we couldn’t see or be given advice of which caused any concerns as to the final product we selected. Well done team !!!”
