Our first Modern Apprentice, Hannah Dow (pictured above, left) started with Laings in May 2022, and recently acquired the role of Kitchen Contracts Administrator after completing her SCQF Level 6 in Digital Applications. Hannah described her modern apprenticeship as: a great way to learn whilst gaining valuable workplace skills. The apprenticeship allowed me to increase my confidence, resilience, and social skills. I now have a recognised qualification that will stand me in good stead for my future. I was able to use transferable skills from my apprenticeship into my role, and it gave me a chance to settle into the role I am currently in.” Hannah currently supports our Contracts Design colleagues with all areas of our live projects.

Fellow Kitchen Contracts team member, James Beattie (pictured above centre) completed his course in Digital Applications to the role of Kitchen Contracts Design Assistant. James said of the experience: “It was very enjoyable and beneficial. You are learning other skills whilst working, which doesn't leave you a huge workload as you can complete your course at your own pace. I recommend this to anyone looking into modern apprenticeships.” James now works alongside our experienced Design Team on live projects, with renowned housebuilders.

Modern Apprentice, Max Dawson (pictured above right) started with Laings in July 2022 and recently took up the role of Accounts Assistant, after completing his SVQ Level 6 qualification in Digital Applications to work with our experienced Accounts colleagues. Max expressed this of the course: “I found the apprenticeship great in helping me start in the world of full-time employment with some challenging tasks set by my assessor Paul. With support from both the company and Paul, I was able to figure out the tasks and complete them to a good standard. I feel the apprenticeship has helped with me settling into my role as I am a lot more confident using computers and programmes.” Max’s current focus is on broadening his practical accounting knowledge within the office in the day-to-day work, with the option to pursue further qualifications down the line.

Modern Apprentice Graduations

Laings are committed to continuing to support modern apprenticeships, as a progressive way of getting young people into the workforce. It allows people to gain experience in a working environment and use knowledge learned to complete their courses flexibly. As proven with our recent graduates, modern apprenticeships are a tried and tested way to bring fresh talent into the workforce, and Laings are eager to continue endorsing this scheme.

We wish our newly qualified team members the best of luck in their new roles, and look forward to seeing what they do next!
