At the heart of this project is our customers’ home – a beautiful former manse in rural Aberdeenshire which dates back to the 19th century.
This traditional property is full of history and the previous bathroom came with one particularly interesting curio - the minutes of a Parish Meeting dated 4th January 1912 which discussed the installation of its first bathroom.
The minutes tell us that Laings had been asked to undertake the work. With a bathroom project of their own to commence, our customers felt there was nowhere better to go for their bathroom than to the company which had historic links to their home.
Their brief was to create a luxurious bathroom with real wow factor in a vintage style which complemented the property’s heritage and offered a contemporary connection to that first bathroom installed all those years ago.
“After hearing their wonderful story and listening to their brief, I showed them around our extensive showroom, so they could get a feel for their preferred style and see the different design options available to them. We selected a stunning, statement claw foot roll top bath as the room’s centrepiece and complemented it with matching sanitaryware – all from our Lefroy Brooks range. Marble-effect tiles were chosen to add a luxurious touch of vintage glamour and Lefroy Brooks accessories in a silver nickel finish picked to give the room real authenticity. Prior to the refurbishment the room had been a particularly cold one, so a warm design was essential. Both the bathtub and the lighting around the mirror make the room especially cosy and inviting.”

Our customers opted for our full installation and project management service. They mentioned that they required a new Velux window for their bathroom, but were not sure if we could provide one. However, our expert installation team were able to source and fit a new window as part of the project to minimize the number of vendors involved.
In addition, the Laings installation team undertook extensive work to remove the old lath and plaster from the walls and ceiling to make the room a warm space for the new bathroom.
Our customers were delighted with the outcome of the project and the Parish Minutes are on display in their finished bathroom– showing the link between Laings bathrooms old and new!
